Day 2 (7th July, 2018)

We stayed our first night in a place called Przystanek Rospuda, which is located in a small town called Raczki, Poland. It is a very cozy B&B type of  guest house with 5 rooms upstairs. If we were interested in kayaking, we would have had a good chance to try it. Unfortunately we had also a quite tight schedule for day 2, so we had to hit the road again. Our target was to be in Krakow late in the evening and if you look at the map, you can easily observe how big country Poland really is and it might take more than just a couple hours to drive from north to south.

See the map of our route for Day 2. We drove approx. 600 km.

Although we had chosen the shortest route via Warsaw, driving through small towns was proceeding very slowly especially between Raczki – Warsaw, because there aren’t so many highways to speed up a bit. Basically the average speed was around 70 km per hour. Driving from Warsaw to Krakow was much quicker and all credit goes to the long higway sections.

While driving I noticed that Polish landscape is very flat. This must be a huge advantage for the farmers to cultivate the land. No wonder that Polish cereal production is one the largest in Europe. Based on Eurostat statistics of harvested production and cultivation area of cerals Poland is among the top three.  When driving through the countryside, you can see endless grain fields all the way on the both sides of the road.

We saw many graveyards on the way, which were located a bit outside of small towns. We decided to visit one just to see how beautiful places they are. People have brought lots of beautiful flowers and candles to the tombs.

As we have really tight schedule and I occasionally face some technical problems with the WiFi, I’m publishing my blogs few days late…
