We have been so lucky with the weather. It was warm and sunny Saturday morning. Before heading to Amsterdam, we had a nice breakfast in a place called SugarStars. We took the train from Zaandam to Amsterdam Centraal. We were so looking forward to explore the city of canals. I did my first roadtrip by bicycle exact 25 years ago and also then Amsterdam was on my ”must to explore” list. Did you know that Amsterdam is the most bicycle friendly city in the world? They say that the city is owned byt the cyclists. You need to walk with caution and keep your eyes and ears open to avoid any collision with the cyclists. We stopped by the canal and had a drink of Heineken’s cold beer. At the same time we were amused by some peculiar boat travellers, who were passing by.

We decided to visit Rijksmuseum to see the paintings of the famous artists like Rembrandt, Vermeer, van Gogh, Monet…Honestly we had a quite quick visit, because we didn’t want to spend the rest of the day inside the museum. If you want to observe all the pieces of art, you must reserve at least one day there.

After a few hours of high culture, we decided to lower the requirements of our cultural experiences a bit. Also it was a good time of the day, as it was getting dark and the red street lights were turned on. We walked through the red light district ”De Wallen” of Amsterdam and wondered what this tourist attraction can offer. Unfortunately not much for us and we decided to return back to hotel. We had a long day ahead us in the next day.
